The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of students involved in the bullying of their classmate, adding that those implicated will be charged to the Family Court.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said all individuals connected to the incident had been identified following a thorough investigation.

“Following a thorough and painstaking investigation, the command confirms that all individuals directly connected to the incident have been identified, while those implicated have been apprehended and are being charged to the Family Court in accordance with extant laws guiding juvenile justice and child protection,” he said.

The development follows public outrage after a disturbing video surfaced online showing two male students assaulting another student while a third recorded the incident.

In the video, one of the boys was seen dragging the victim by his school uniform and stamping on his chest as the student cried out in pain.

The student recording the incident could be heard pleading with the attackers to stop.

According to the police, the incident began on March 5, 2026, when two 14-year-old female students reportedly had a disagreement with a fellow student who allegedly made a provocative remark about their late father.

Ikoedem said in the statement that during the altercation, the student allegedly uttered the words, “Ogun kill your papa,” which angered the girls.

The Media gathered that the girls were said to have attacked the student after school hours.

During the incident, a woman who came to pick up her son intervened but was also assaulted by the girls, who allegedly dragged and tore at her clothing.

The school management subsequently expelled the students involved for violent conduct.

Police said the situation escalated the following day when the son of the assaulted woman allegedly carried out a revenge attack on the brother of the girls.

The statement added, “The male student attacked the victim seen in the viral video in what has been identified as a revenge assault, which was recorded and posted by another student.”

In response, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment and intensification of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across secondary schools in the state.

The Command said the initiative would focus on identifying gaps in supervision and preventing similar incidents, while the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices would be deployed to sensitise students and school authorities.

It urged parents, guardians and school administrators to take greater responsibility in monitoring children and discouraging violence, advising students to resolve disputes through appropriate channels.

While calling for calm, the Command assured the public that justice would be served and that measures were being put in place to prevent a recurrence.
