The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned an apprentice and an accomplice in connection with the murder of their employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and the alleged theft of his funds.
The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated in a Wednesday release that the suspects were brought before the court on March 18, 2026, by officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
According to Ikenga, the main suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, was arraigned at a High Court in Onitsha alongside Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who is accused of assisting in the crime by providing a bank account used to transfer over ₦8 million belonging to the deceased.
The statement added, “The primary suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, 21, allegedly struck his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, on the head with a pestle, causing his death. He is also linked to an attack on Ogechukwu Nwite in Fegge, Onitsha.”
“He was brought before the High Court in Onitsha together with Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, 21, who is alleged to have assisted in the crime by providing a bank account used to fraudulently transfer more than Eight Million Naira (₦8,000,000) belonging to the deceased.”
The operatives of the Command recovered the sum of Six Million Naira (₦6,000,000) from the suspects, being part of the stolen funds, which has been tendered as exhibit in the ongoing court proceedings.”
According to him, the suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
The incident, which took place in February at Fegge, Onitsha, reportedly arose from a dispute between the apprentice and his employer over accusations of theft and drug use.
The deceased was reportedly a trader at the well-known Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Market in the commercial city.
