NATIONWIDE OPERATIONS: ARMY ARRESTS 20, RESCUES NINE

The Nigerian Army has arrested 20 suspects and rescued nine kidnapped victims in a series of coordinated operations conducted across the North East, North West, and North Central regions within 24 hours.

According to a statement released on Sunday, the operations also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other items linked to criminal activities, as troops stepped up efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.

“In a series of high-intensity operations over the last 24 hours, the Nigerian Army has significantly weakened criminal networks nationwide, resulting in the arrest of 20 high-profile suspects, the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with specialized ammunition, and the rescue of nine kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

The Army added that the operations successfully disrupted terrorist activities across multiple regions.

“These coordinated operations across the North East, North West, and North Central regions have effectively disrupted terrorist supply lines and denied the remnants of these groups any safe havens,” the statement said.

In the North East, troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade conducted operations in Borno State.

“The mission resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects, including individuals connected to the notorious kidnapper Baba Ali. Key logistics, including bags of fertiliser used in improvised explosives, were also seized,” the statement added.

The statement added that insurgents were forced to abandon their positions in Marte Local Government Area.

“Simultaneously, a combined force in Marte LGA compelled a group of insurgents to flee, leaving behind bicycles and essential supplies during the encounter,” it said.

In the North West, troops conducted operations in Kaduna State, recovering stolen livestock and rescuing victims.

“Notably, troops engaged terrorists at Lahin Dan Auta, successfully rescuing three kidnapped victims who have since been reunited with their families, demonstrating the Army’s rapid response capability,” the statement added.

In the North Central region, operations targeted suspected traffickers and armed groups in Benue State.

“A targeted raid in Gwer West resulted in the rescue of six victims and the arrest of a suspected trafficker. Additionally, a patrol in Guma LGA led to the capture of three terrorists and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” it said.
