Former Minister of State for the FCT, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party after over two decades of membership.
In a resignation letter addressed to her ward chairman in Ona-Ara LGA, Oyo State, Akinjide said the decision followed “a long period of personal reflection,” noting that she had been with the party since 2001.
She expressed appreciation for the opportunities and relationships built during her time in the PDP, confirming that her resignation takes immediate effect.
She added that she was grateful for the platform the party provided for political participation and public service, and wished the party continued success in the future.
A close associate of the former minister, Kehinde Olaosebikan, has confirmed her resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Olaosebikan, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area and a former aspirant for the Oluyole Federal Constituency, stated that the ex-minister has indeed stepped down from the party.
According to The Media, Jumoke Akinjide was appointed Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory in July 2011, serving under former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015.
She also briefly held the position of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
Earlier in her career, she served as Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters between May 2001 and September 2003, and subsequently as Special Assistant on G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
