ARMY CHIEF REASSURES PLATEAU RESIDENTS, URGES CALM AND COOPERATION

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, conducted an on-site assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State, alongside other heads of security agencies.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the visit is part of continuous efforts to restore calm and ensure lasting peace throughout the state.

Upon arrival, the COAS was welcomed by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, highlighting strong civil-military cooperation and a joint commitment to tackling emerging security challenges.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. The briefing outlined ongoing operations and proactive measures being implemented in coordination with other security agencies to neutralize threats, protect lives and property, and stabilize affected communities.

The COAS also engaged with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by adhering to curfews and cooperating with ongoing operations and investigations while conducting their lawful activities.

Hon. Dachung Bagos, Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, praised the COAS for his timely visit, noting that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and strengthen trust in ongoing security initiatives.
