CHELSEA TAKE ACTION FOLLOWING FERNANDEZ’S COMMENTS ON MADRID MOVE

Chelsea have suspended Enzo Fernandez for two matches following comments he made about a possible departure from the club.
The English Premier League side confirmed the sanction through manager Liam Rosenior during a press briefing on Friday.
Fernandez, 26, sparked controversy during the recent international break when he suggested a move to one of Madrid’s top clubs and criticised Chelsea for dismissing former coach Enzo Maresca. The Argentine midfielder argued that Maresca had given the team an identity, and his replacement by Rosenior has coincided with a slump in form—just three wins in 10 matches and a current four-game losing streak.

Rosenior announced that Fernandez will miss the club’s FA Cup tie against Port Vale and the upcoming league clash with Manchester City as part of the disciplinary measure.
“I spoke with Enzo an hour ago. As a club, and as part of that decision-making process, we’ve decided he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game or the Manchester City match next Sunday,” Rosenior said.
He added, “A line was crossed regarding our culture and what we aim to build. We had to enforce a sanction, and that is the decision we’ve taken.”
Despite the suspension, Rosenior stressed that Fernandez remains an important player for Chelsea. “The door is not closed on Enzo. This is a sanction to protect the values of a winning football club with a tradition of success. The line was crossed during the international break,” he explained.
Since joining Chelsea in 2023 for a British-record £106.8 million, Fernandez has made 161 appearances, playing in 46 games this season with 12 goals and 6 assists.
