The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticized a faction within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, accusing them of relying on emotional appeals rather than addressing the legal issues at the heart of their internal dispute.

In a post on X, Keyamo said the group is attempting to “use emotional reasoning and blackmail” to sidestep what he described as a self-inflicted legal problem, stressing that court decisions are grounded in facts and evidence, not sentiment.

He dismissed arguments based on the “status quo ante bellum” as irrelevant, insisting that the key issue remains the ongoing court case over the party’s leadership, initiated by a duly elected Deputy National Chairman.

Keyamo stated: “David Mark’s faction of the ADC thinks they can bluff their way out of a purely legal conundrum using emotional tactics. But the law doesn’t care about feelings. Decisions are made based on facts, evidence, and legal interpretation—not emotions or politics.

“Those arguing about the pre-conflict situation are wasting energy on shadows instead of addressing the core issue. Whether INEC recognizes either group currently is irrelevant. What matters is the active legal challenge regarding the party’s leadership, still before the courts.

“Until the case is resolved, any actions by either faction could be nullified after the INEC deadline for submitting candidate nominations, potentially leaving the ADC without a candidate for the election.”

Keyamo warned that the party should not blame INEC but rather see the suspension of recognition for both factions as an opportunity to resolve the crisis quickly. He suggested the ADC consider a faster court process, reach a political agreement, or adopt a more secure political path to avoid complications.

He also dismissed claims of external interference, asserting that neither the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor INEC forced the party to adopt any platform without proper legal procedures.

The minister added that while the Mark-led faction has pledged to continue holding congresses and conventions despite INEC’s stance and a Court of Appeal ruling, they alone will bear the consequences of those actions.

Keyamo concluded with a warning: “Never stop your opponent from making a mistake.”
