Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Awapul, a community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of Sunday.
According to reports, the assailants struck the town around 1:30 a.m., opening fire sporadically before causing widespread damage to private homes, shops, and other infrastructure.
Confirming the incident exclusively to The Media, the Spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said no lives were lost.
“There was an attack this morning around 1:30 a.m. in Chibok Local Government, in a village called Awapul. The attack was carried out by unknown men suspected to be Boko Haram. No casualties were recorded; it was mainly destruction of properties,” he said.

Residents reported that the attackers, who rode motorcycles, operated in the community for over an hour. Some residents affected by the raid have reportedly fled to Chibok town for safety.
“They burned down houses and small shops. Some owners have gone to Chibok main town to take refuge,” a resident, who asked not to be named, said. He appealed to the government to provide security rather than relief materials, adding, “What we need is protection so we can go about our daily activities.”
The Awapul attack comes less than 24 hours after suspected Boko Haram terrorists targeted an IDP camp in Damasak and the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters. During that attack, four police officers and a member of the Hunters Group were killed, and an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was partially burnt. Rocket-propelled grenades and other sophisticated weapons were reportedly used in the assault, though security forces successfully repelled the attackers.
In a separate incident on April 4, 2026, terrorists attacked the Mallam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak around 2:40 a.m., targeting a CJTF/Hunters duty post. One member of the Hunters Group, Atom Abua (40), was killed, while about 20 thatched houses and other properties were destroyed.
