The U.S. Department of State has advised applicants seeking United States visas to rely solely on official government platforms for accurate and up-to-date information on travel requirements and application procedures.

The department noted that visa rules, categories, and requirements are subject to periodic updates and should be verified through its official website, travel.state.gov, which provides comprehensive guidance for both immigrant and non-immigrant visa applicants.

The portal contains detailed information on application steps, required documentation, interview procedures, processing timelines, and country-specific eligibility requirements.

In a post shared on its X handle on Monday, the mission stressed the importance of verifying information from credible sources.

“Make sure you are getting official information about U.S. visa policies. Please always check official sites for travel guidance. Visit http://travel.state.gov to learn more,” the statement read.

Officials warned that reliance on unofficial sources could lead to misinformation, delays, or costly errors during the application process.

The advisory also highlighted that visa policies may change due to administrative updates, security considerations, or diplomatic factors, making it essential for applicants to stay informed through verified channels.

Applicants were further encouraged to confirm specific requirements with their nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate before submitting applications or making travel plans.

The guidance, according to officials, is aimed at improving compliance, reducing application errors, and ensuring that prospective travellers follow the correct procedures when applying for U.S. visas.
