The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Bala Yusuf, a native of Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, for allegedly attempting to kill a driver and steal his vehicle valued at about N5 million.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect allegedly hired a driver in Abuja to take him to Jos. On arrival, he reportedly convinced the driver to continue the trip to Bauchi, claiming he wanted to visit his family.
The statement further alleged that after reaching Bauchi, the suspect laced the driver’s food with sleeping pills in a bid to incapacitate him before fleeing with the vehicle.
Police said the suspect was later arrested in possession of the stolen vehicle, while the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Command added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
