TWO DEAD AS LASTMA OFFICIAL, DRIVER CLASED IN LAGOS
The Isolo Local Council Development Area office building in Okota, Lagos, was destroyed on Tuesday by irate youths.
This came after two unidentified individuals were said to have died during an altercation among representatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, a police officer, and a driver in the Ago Palace neighbourhood of Isolo, Lagos.
According to information, the incident occurred about 9 a.m. when the unnamed driver allegedly tried to flee after breaking the law in a traffic violation.
According to witnesses, a police officer assisted by LASTMA officials chased the driver.
An eyewitness, who gave his name simply as Usman, said, “The LASTMA officials chased the driver. One of the law enforcement officers was dragging the steering wheel with the driver and in the course of that, the driver lost control and rammed into some passengers. About four people died.”
Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesman for LASTMA, responded by saying in a statement that the driver of the blue Toyota Sienna bus (AKD 944 HN) had been detained for driving against the flow of traffic.
“On their way, and in an effort to get away, the driver turned into Bayo Oyewale Street by Ago Roundabout and collided with a fully loaded tricycle,” he claimed.
“While the tricycle operator died instantly, a pregnant woman later died at the hospital while two injured school children are currently in the Intensive Care Unit receiving medical attention.
