UPDATE: WIKE RECEIVES UAE AMBASSADOR, SEEKS REVERSAL OF VISA BAN ON NIGERIANS
At his Abuja office on Monday, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nigeria, was met by Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike expressed his concerns about the visa ban on Nigerians at the meeting and expressed his hope that the UAE government will quickly lift the restriction to allow Nigerians to visit the nation.
He expressed his admiration for the city’s ability to draw tourists over time and expressed his hope that Nigeria would follow suit.
The minister went on to say that the two nations’ relationship was crucial for promoting national development and that the Federal Government will look into further avenues of cooperation with the UAE to guarantee Nigeria’s economic expansion.
The ambassador, on his part, clarified that the UAE government has been attempting to bridge some gaps and remove the ban on Nigerians obtaining visas throughout the past several months.
He told the minister that there would be good news very soon, even if he acknowledged that the government had run into some obstacles that had caused the lifting of the visa prohibition to stall.
