JUST IN: POLICE RESCUE KIDNAPPED EDO MONARCH AFTER 4-DAY CAPTIVITY
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have successfully rescued the Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional ruler from Edo Central, who was abducted on February 3.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Benin, the state capital, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the rescue operation took place on Friday around 6 p.m.
Yamu credited the successful rescue to sustained police efforts, with support from the Edo State Government, local vigilantes, hunters, and concerned residents.
He also noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, had pledged to ensure the monarch’s safe return, and her team worked tirelessly to fulfill that promise.
He said the command thanked the state government and attributed the success to the logistic support rendered by the governor, Monday Okpebholo.
“The command equally appreciates the vigilantes, hunters and other well-meaning residents of the State for their support so far.
“The general public is assured that the command’s commitment to the fight against crime remains unshaken,” Yamu said.
