JUST IN: HEAVY SECURITY AS RIVERS ASSEMBLY RESUMES SITTING
The state lawmakers are scheduled to meet Monday at the Rivers House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, which is heavily guarded.
The notice of the meeting was made public on Monday morning by Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Several squads of police officers and SSS agents were present at the Assembly Quarters in the capital of the oil-rich Niger Delta State as of the time this report was filed.
Although the topic of Monday’s plenary is still unclear, there are good signs that concerns regarding Rivers State’s local government administration would dominate the conversation.
Days after months of a drawn-out struggle for the Assembly’s soul, the Supreme Court ordered Amaewhule and other legislators to return to their seats.

The Rivers State local government election from the previous year was also declared invalid by the Supreme Court’s ruling last week. Additionally, it directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop providing cash to the state’s government until it rids itself of what the court refers to as egregious disregard for court orders.
