
LAGOS POLICE SWIFTLY QUELL DISTURBANCE AT EVANS SQUARE, EBUTE METTA

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the prompt intervention of its officers in resolving a violent altercation that broke out at Evans Square, Ebute Metta, on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., involved a clash between commercial tricycle riders and a group of local youths.
Responding swiftly to a distress call, officers from the Adekunle Division, supported by Tactical Squads and other detachments, arrived at the scene to restore calm. One individual injured during the fracas was rescued by the police and transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
While no fatalities were recorded, three suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently in custody. The Lagos State Command confirmed that they will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, has taken over the case to conduct a comprehensive probe into the root cause of the conflict.
The Command stressed that the incident was not ethnically motivated and poses no threat to public safety. It attributed the disruption to the actions of miscreants who exploited the situation for unlawful purposes.
Reassuring residents of their safety, CP Jimoh reiterated the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order across the state. He urged parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in disruptive behavior and called on the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
The Police Command encouraged all Lagosians to continue with their daily activities without fear, affirming that the security and well-being of all residents remain a top priority.
