Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday declared a “historic victory” in Israel’s 12-day war with Iran, asserting that his country had significantly degraded Tehran’s nuclear capabilities and would prevent any attempt to rebuild them.

In a nationally televised address following the commencement of a ceasefire between both nations, Netanyahu stated, “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. We have thwarted Iran’s nuclear project. And if anyone in Iran tries to rebuild it, we will act with the same determination, with the same intensity, to foil any attempt.”

The Israeli leader praised the military campaign—dubbed **“Operation Rising Lion”**—as a landmark moment in the nation’s defense history, saying it “will be recorded in the annals of Israel’s wars, and will be studied by armies all over the world.”

The campaign involved extensive strikes on Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure, targeted assassinations of senior military and intelligence figures, and attacks on symbolic sites including Iran’s state media headquarters and the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran.

Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, earlier said the operation had “set back Iran’s nuclear programme by years” and signaled that the campaign was entering a “new phase.”

As the ceasefire held, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian declared his country’s willingness to return to nuclear talks with the United States but reiterated Tehran’s right to peaceful atomic energy. “We will continue to assert our legitimate rights,” he said.

Iran has consistently denied pursuing nuclear weapons.

The Israeli government also released a statement affirming that the military offensive had neutralized what it called the “dual existential threat” posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile capabilities.

Following the U.S. military’s involvement with strikes on Iranian facilities over the weekend, former President Donald Trump claimed American forces had “totally obliterated” Iran’s main nuclear sites.

Despite the declarations of victory, experts and intelligence analysts cautioned that it remained uncertain whether the attacks had fully neutralized Iran’s nuclear capacity, with concerns that enriched uranium stockpiles may have been relocated prior to the strikes.

The conflict, among the most intense between the regional rivals in recent years, now enters a precarious diplomatic phase as global powers push for de-escalation and renewed nuclear negotiations.
