INSECURITY: KEBBI STATE GOVT CONTEMPLATES CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR INFORMANTS OF BANDITS

Subsequent to intensified assaults by armed marauders in certain regions of Kebbi State, the state administration has declared intentions to reassess current legislation with the aim of enforcing capital punishment or life incarceration upon convicted informants who assist bandits.
The State Governor, Nasiru Idris, articulated this on Tuesday during his expression of sympathy at Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Areas.
The visitation ensued after the recent criminal assault in Tadurga and Kyebu, which led to the demise of 30 individuals.
The governor, who characterized informants as perilous within the community, stated that his administration will never trivialize the matter of safety and will address it with utmost gravity.
As per his statement, preparations have been finalized to establish a military operational facility in Zuru Emirate to bolster security in the region.
He additionally revealed that he has enabled the prompt distribution of Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security apparatus from Abuja to the region.
Governor Idris, while articulating his apprehension regarding the calamity that led to the loss of lives, asserted his administration’s dedication to prioritizing security.
He characterized the demise of the individuals as sorrowful, beseeching the Almighty Allah to bestow upon them Aljannah Firdausi and a swift recuperation for those wounded.
“We are here to see things for ourselves, commiserate with you and reassure you about the urgent actions taken to bolster the security of lives and property of the people.
“My administration has expended a substantial amount on security. We procured 80 Hilux vehicles for security personnel, provided 1,500 motorcycles to vigilantes, and increased allowances for security operatives in troubled areas,” he explained.
Governor Idris similarly encouraged the populace to avoid politicizing the matter of security and to abstain from making indiscreet remarks on social media.
The Leader of Danko Chiefdom, Alhaji Ibrahim Al’aji, and the Leader of Dabai Chiefdom, Alhaji Suleiman Sami, in their individual statements, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his visit and the initiatives implemented to tackle insecurity in the region.
The traditional rulers emphasized that security remained a collective responsibility and called for more robust measures, including increased security presence to guard the gateway from neighboring states through which bandits infiltrate into Kebbi State to carry out their criminal activities. The Emir of Zuru, Retired Major General Sani Sami, likewise conveyed appreciation to the governor for the condolence visit and lauded his continuous endeavors to address insecurity within the emirate
