Barcelona announced on Wednesday that they will make their long-anticipated return to the revamped Camp Nou on August 10, hosting a friendly match after years of renovation aimed at expanding and modernizing the historic stadium.

The match, which is part of the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy pre-season event, will mark only a partial reopening, as construction is still ongoing in several sections, the reigning Spanish champions said in a statement.

Ongoing works include the completion of the new third tier, a dual VIP ring, roof installation, interior upgrades, and development of the surrounding stadium complex.

While the club has yet to confirm the temporary seating capacity, local reports suggest that approximately 35,000 fans will be able to attend.

“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said.

Barca will have another month to continue work on the stadium after requesting to play their first three La Liga games of the upcoming season away from home.

After suffering several delays since beginning in 2023, the project dubbed “Espai Barca” is due to finish in the summer of 2026 and boost the Camp Nou’s capacity to 105,000.

Barcelona have, in the meantime, played their home games at the smaller Montjuic Olympic stadium.
