Subsequent to several months of political strain and discord in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have officially proclaimed the conclusion of their dispute, assuring citizens that tranquility has ultimately reemerged.

The cessation of hostilities ensued after a conference with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday evening, during which both leaders, alongside various stakeholders, arrived at a consensus to collaborate for the advancement of the state.

Addressing reporters following the conference, Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, conveyed appreciation to God for the accomplishment.

Wike stated, “I wish to attribute praise to God for the fact that today is the 26th of June 2025, and tranquility has ultimately been restored to the state. We have all consented to collaborate with the governor, and the governor has likewise agreed to cooperate with all of us. We are constituents of the same political family.

He recognized that differing opinions are an intrinsic aspect of politics but stressed that the agreement represented a new beginning for the state.

He said, “Just like humans, you have disagreements, and then you also have a time to also settle your disagreements, and that has been finally concluded today, and we have come to report to Mr President that is what we have agreed.

“For me, all matters have concluded, and I urge everyone to collaborate with one another. There is no further hostility; there is nothing left to discuss. We have experienced disagreements; we have ultimately found consensus on all issues, so we are grateful. For me, this is a day to express our gratitude to the Almighty.

Governor Fubara, who also spoke to journalists, said the return of peace is crucial to the state’s development.

He said, “For me, it’s very important that this day has come to be. What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace, and by the special grace of God this night, with the help of Mr President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned to Rivers State.”

Fubara vowed to exert every effort to maintain the tranquility, characterizing it as a move toward enduring stability and administration in the resource-abundant state.
