The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and daughter of President Bola Tinubu, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, has called on residents of Lagos State to actively participate in the ongoing local government elections, urging citizens to reject voter apathy and embrace their civic responsibility.

Tinubu-Ojo cast her vote at exactly 11:23 a.m. on Saturday at Polling Unit 022, Ward 7, Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking with journalists after voting, she expressed strong confidence in the transparency and effectiveness of the electoral process and stressed the importance of grassroots involvement in democratic governance.

“I am very confident in the process, 100%, because it is transparent, and the present chairman has done very well for the local government,” she said. “If the person currently in office has performed well, we should have confidence that the next person can do even better.”

Encouraging more voter participation, Tinubu-Ojo stated that casting a vote is the bedrock of democratic accountability. “I want to encourage Lagosians to come out and perform their civic right. It is our responsibility to ensure we choose those who lead us. If we don’t cast our vote, we don’t have any right to complain whether the government is doing well or not,” she said.

She also used the opportunity to advocate for increased female participation in governance, reiterating the goal of achieving at least 35 per cent representation for women in public office.

“We want to continue working towards achieving at least 35 per cent representation for women. But we need to sensitise our women and encourage one another. Those who are capable should also come out,” she added.

The elections are being held across Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas, where eligible voters are expected to elect new chairpersons and councillors to lead development efforts at the grassroots level.
