NASARAWA POLICE DENY REPORT OF MASS RAPE AT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LAFIA
By Aishat Momoh. O.
The Nasarawa State Police Command has debunked viral reports alleging that over 30 female students of the Federal University, Lafia, were raped by bandits during a recent attack.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, described the report as false and misleading, stating that police investigations revealed no evidence to support the claim.
“That report is false. Bandits entered into the school and raped over 30 female students? Our findings show that the report is not true,” Nansel said.
He explained that the police had reached out to the university’s Chief Security Officer, the information officer, and several students none of whom confirmed the alleged incident.
Also reacting to the rumour, a user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), @deehsarasheed, who identified as a student leader at the institution, strongly condemned the claims.
“This report is fake and stands condemned,” the user stated, adding that the actual attack occurred at the off-campus student village and not in the university’s main hostels.

According to the account, the attack involved armed robbery across several rooms, with only one reported case of rape. “Only one student was raped and that was because she was found naked after they barged into her room (she herself stated that she was laying naked),” the user wrote.
The student further clarified that the school’s official female hostels of which there are four have never been attacked due to the presence of heavy security, making them among the most secure and competitive accommodations on campus.
The police have assured the public that they are continuing to monitor the situation and have urged the public to disregard unverified reports capable of inciting panic.
