NPF WARNS OFFICERS AGAINST LOBBYING FOR SPECIAL PROMOTION, DISPELS ONLINE FALSEHOODS

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a stern warning to its personnel against lobbying for special promotions, stressing that recent accelerated promotions were based strictly on merit and not the result of arbitrary decisions or favoritism.
In a statement dated August 7, 2025, with reference number CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/481, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the warning followed an observed increase in lobbying efforts directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission, largely fueled by false narratives circulating online.
“The Nigeria Police Force has observed with concern the growing wave of lobbying and unofficial requests… by certain officers seeking special promotions. This surge was triggered by the misinformation being spread by certain media platforms,” the statement read in part.
The NPF clarified that the recent promotions were the result of a structured reward system, which recognized officers who had demonstrated exceptional bravery, professional excellence, and a commitment to duty. It emphasized that the promotion process remains anchored on “integrity, verifiable merit, and honourable service.”
The statement also debunked misleading reports suggesting that the Force had embarked on arbitrary promotions, describing such claims as “baseless, misleading, and intended to undermine the integrity” of the police.
Officers were strongly cautioned against attempts to influence the promotion process through unofficial means, with the Force warning that such unethical behavior would attract “severe disciplinary action in accordance with extant laws and regulations.”
DCP Adejobi reaffirmed the commitment of the NPF to a transparent and merit-driven promotion system, urging officers to remain disciplined, dedicated, and professional in the discharge of their duties.
