The Federal Government has celebrated Nigeria’s outstanding performance at the TeenEagle Global Finals, rewarding the overall winner, Nafisah Abdullahi, with N200,000.
At a special recognition ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmad, described Nafisah as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, Nafisah triumphed over more than 20,000 contestants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations, to clinch the world title.
The TeenEagle competition is a globally recognised contest that assesses students’ proficiency in English, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Alausa, while presenting the gift, said the Federal Government was committed to strengthening foundational education to reduce the number of out-of-school children nationwide. He noted that President Bola Tinubu has consistently prioritised investment in education, health, and social protection as part of his administration’s focus on human capital development.
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in the history of our nation, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education. Each time we approach the President for support in this sector, his response has been a resounding ‘yes’ because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria,” Alausa said.
The minister also announced additional gifts of over N100,000 each to other Nigerian students who excelled at the competition.
Prof. Ahmad praised Nafisah’s resilience, intellect, and determination, stressing that Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. “Nafisa has demonstrated that Nigeria can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. She is a shining example,” she said, urging her to view the victory as a stepping stone to greater achievements.
Responding, Nafisah thanked President Tinubu, the ministers, her school, and her parents for their support.
The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Idris, also lauded the recognition, noting that the state government remains committed to celebrating educational milestones.
