2027: EX-MINISTER FORESEES TINUBU WIN IN SOUTH-EAST, DISMISSES OBI’S INFLUENCE

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Former Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu has conveyed assurance that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will obtain significant votes from the South-East in the 2027 election.
During an interview with the media on Wednesday, Shittu dismissed claims that the so-called “Obi factor” would undermine the president’s chances in the region.
He noted that constituents in the South-East are gravitating towards the All Progressives Congress.
“If you recognize the volume of votes that will emerge from even the South-East for APC, you will be astonished,” he stated.
He highlighted the impact of prominent figures such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Works Minister Dave Umahi, who are expected to encourage voters to “choose the Tinubu path. ”
When questioned whether Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, still influenced political developments in the South-East, Shittu was dismissive.
“It is irrelevant,” he remarked. “What matters is for him [Tinubu] to prevail. Even if it is by a mere 10 votes, I can assure you that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge victorious. ”
Shittu acknowledged the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, including escalating fuel prices and the naira’s devaluation, but contended that the struggles stemmed from prolonged mismanagement and asserted that Tinubu’s policies would yield positive outcomes over time.
“Nigerians are currently encountering difficulties. However, I want to assert this with conviction and sincerity: many of Tinubu’s initiatives will garner appreciation from Nigerians sooner rather than later,” he added.
Shittu’s statements arise amidst ongoing political maneuvering in preparation for the 2027 elections, as parties and regional power brokers aim to solidify support across Nigeria’s varied geopolitical zones. Numerous politicians from both the APC and the opposition have already declared their endorsement for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
On Wednesday, the media reported that Abdulmumin Jibrin, an NNPP House of Representatives member, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s prospect of victory in 2027. Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo (APGA) has also voiced similar support.
Simultaneously, dissenting politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have aligned with the African Democratic Congress coalition to contest Tinubu’s governing party.
