The Nigerian Air Force has reported the elimination of over 15 terrorists during an airstrike on a hideout situated in the Sambisa Forest region of Borno State.

In a statement released on Thursday by its representative, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the military branch indicated that the operation was executed on September 3, 2025, by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

According to him, the strike aimed at an enclave located to the west of Zuwa, which was identified via intelligence and surveillance as a refuge for militants and leaders associated with recent assaults in the vicinity of Bitta, within the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Ejodame mentioned that the airstrike obliterated facilities utilized by the insurgents and diminished their operational capabilities. “The Nigerian Air Force, through the Air Component under the Joint Task Force North-East of Operation Hadin Kai, has once more showcased its precision, reach, and determination in the battle against terrorism. On 3 September 2025, a meticulously coordinated air interdiction mission targeted a newly recognized terrorist enclave west of Zuwa in the broader Sambisa region.

“Operating based on reliable intelligence and confirmatory surveillance, the mission focused on hideouts sheltering fighters and commanders accountable for recent acts of violence around Bitta. The strikes were devastating, neutralizing over 15 terrorists and demolishing essential structures vital to their operations.

“The Nigerian Air Force persists as a beacon of vigilance, professionalism, and decisive aerial power in safeguarding national security. Each successful strike propels Nigeria closer to enduring peace,” the statement conveyed.

The Sambisa Forest, an expansive territory in the North-East, has functioned as a bastion for Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters since the onset of the insurgency in 2009.

The Nigerian military has undertaken multiple operations in the area over the years as part of initiatives to undermine the groups’ influence.

The most recent operation coincides with ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the North-East, where insurgency and banditry have displaced millions and disrupted livelihoods.
