POLICE ANNOUNCE BURIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR LATE IGP SOLOMON ARASE

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the formal burial arrangements for the late Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who departed this life on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69.

Arase, recognized as the 18th native IGP, was esteemed for his guidance, philanthropy, and dedication to police reform initiatives.

As per a program endorsed by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the ceremonies will commence in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi. A requiem mass will take place on September 26 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, followed by a lying-in-state on September 27 at his Abuja residence, prior to the transfer of the remains to Benin City, Edo State.

In his birthplace, Sabongida-Ora, a candlelight procession is scheduled for September 29. On October 2, the Edo State judiciary, along with the Nigerian Bar Association, will conduct a valedictory session at the Edo State High Court in Benin. The same day, a service of songs is set to occur at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, followed by a family lying-in-state.

The funeral mass will be held on October 3 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, after which interment will occur at his private residence in Benin City. A reception is arranged at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, and a thanksgiving mass will take place on October 5 to conclude the ceremonies.

Arase, who was awarded the national honor of CFR and held a PhD in law, was appointed Inspector-General of Police in April 2015 and retired in June 2016. He passed away at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, following a brief illness.
