VETERAN JOURNALIST, NEWSWATCH CO-FOUNDER DAN AGBESE DIES AT 81

A co-founder of the NewsWatch magazine, Mr. Dan Agbese, widely regarded as one of the pillars of modern journalism in Nigeria, has died.
A news website owned by respected journalist Shola Oshunkeye reported that family sources confirmed the veteran journalist passed away on Monday morning in Lagos at the age of 81.
Agbese, a former editor of The Nigeria Standard and the New Nigerian, as well as a former general manager of Radio Benue, served as the Editor-in-Chief of the “Newswatch” magazine until April 2010.
The late, highly respected columnist held degrees in mass communications and journalism from the University of Lagos and Columbia University, New York, respectively.
He was also the author of several acclaimed books, including Nigeria Their Nigeria, Fellow Nigerians, The Reporter’s Companion, Style: A Guide to Good Writing, and The Columnist’s Companion: The Art and Craft of Column Writing.
