FAYOSE BLASTS OBASANJO IN ‘THANK YOU’ MESSAGE AFTER EX-PRESIDENT ATTENDS HIS 65TH BIRTHDAY

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has sparked fresh controversy after sending a scathing “thank you” message to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, despite the elder statesman’s presence at his 65th birthday celebration.
The message, sent via SMS and made public by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, contained a series of insults directed at the former President, whom Fayose accused of making “irresponsible comments” at the event.
According to Akinyemi’s statement released on Monday in Abeokuta, Fayose’s message read in part:
“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate except for your very irresponsible comments at your age. You went so low but I am not surprised because someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo… I kept quiet so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man that you are.”
Fayose went further to accuse Obasanjo of suffering from “dementia” and demanded the return of money he claims to have given the former President, referencing Obasanjo’s public comment about receiving it.
In a brief but pointed reply, Obasanjo dismissed the tirade, stating: “Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it, and in the same bag as he brought it, unopened by me.”
The exchange has reignited long-standing tensions between both political figures, known for their history of public disagreements.
The statement was signed by Kehinde Akinyemi, Special Assistant on Media to former President Obasanjo, dated November 17, 2025.
