Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA) has once again showcased the transformative impact of theatre with its latest production, ‘Àjose’, a stage play and radio drama series addressing women’s health, social responsibility, and positive behavioural change.

Staged at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos, the performance drew a diverse audience, including students, creatives, and community members. Through emotionally compelling narratives and captivating performances, Àjose explored themes of healing, justice, compassion, and wellbeing, sparking open discussions on topics often left unspoken—particularly women’s reproductive health.

TAFTA led the creative direction of the production, blending engaging storytelling with meaningful social messages. The play forms part of the academy’s ongoing mission to leverage the arts as a tool for education, reflection, and behavioural change among young people and broader communities.

Speaking about the performance, TAFTA founder Bolanle Auste-Peters highlighted the role of storytelling in promoting social awareness.

Àjose is a powerful reminder that theatre can be more than entertainment—it can heal, educate, and inspire change. The audience’s response demonstrates that honest and creative storytelling opens up conversations that truly matter, especially concerning women’s health and wellbeing,” she said.

TAFTA’s Academy Lead, JO Umoibom, underscored the production’s youth-focused approach.

“Our aim was to keep the play youth-centred, engaging, and purposeful. By combining strong storytelling with creative educational techniques, we delivered messages around healing, responsibility, and compassion in ways that audiences could relate to and reflect upon,” he explained.

Audience reactions throughout the performance highlighted deep engagement, with moments of laughter, emotional resonance, and reflective silence underscoring the significance of the themes explored.
