The traditional ruler of Agamọ Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Kehinde Falodun, has reportedly been killed by suspected bandits.

Sources in the community said the monarch was attacked on Wednesday evening when about 10 armed men allegedly stormed his palace in an attempt to abduct him.

According to a source, Oba Falodun resisted the abduction, prompting the assailants to open fire. The source claimed that when the bullets allegedly failed to penetrate, the attackers struck the monarch on the head with a heavy object, leading to his death.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Abayomi Jimoh, said an investigation had commenced.

He stated that the victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside tactical teams from the command, promptly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits,” Jimoh said.

He added that operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, local hunters and Atuluse Security personnel joined efforts to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.

“Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order. The public is assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for the heinous act to justice,” he added.

The killing comes weeks after suspected bandits attacked Ayede Community in the same local government area and abducted a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi, who was later released after a ransom was reportedly paid.

Days after that incident, Amotekun operatives arrested 12 men suspected of involvement in banditry in the area.

Residents have since expressed concern over growing insecurity in Akure North, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives and property in the affected communities.
