FATAL CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF BORNO ASSISTANT POLICE COMMISSIONER

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Borno State Command, ACP Abubakar Balteh, has passed away.

In a brief statement on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed that ACP Balteh died on 21st February 2026 in a fatal vehicle accident.

“The Borno State Police Command deeply regrets the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who lost his life today, 21st February 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident,” the statement read. “Until his death, he served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command.”

Daso added that details regarding the burial and other arrangements will be communicated in due course. He also prayed, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.”

It is worth recalling that in November 2025, Daso announced the death of DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, who passed away after a prolonged illness. At the time, the PPRO stated: “The Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) after a protracted illness. He served diligently as Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command. May his soul rest in peace.”
