PLATEAU KILLINGS: MUTFWANG DIRECTS SECURITY AGENCIES TO HUNT DOWN PERPETRATORS

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to step up operations and bring to justice those responsible for Sunday’s deadly attack on Ratatis community in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which left at least 10 people dead.
The directive was issued on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap.
Governor Mutfwang condemned the “barbaric and senseless” killings, calling them a setback to recent peace efforts achieved through dialogue and community engagement.
“The Plateau State Government has received with deep shock and profound sadness reports of a violent attack on Ratatis (Dorowa Babuje) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which occurred on Sunday, 22nd February 2026, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives,” the statement read.
“The government strongly condemns this barbaric and senseless act, which comes at a time when ongoing efforts in dialogue, reconciliation, and community engagement have helped maintain relative peace across the state.
“Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby health facilities, with the government closely monitoring their condition to ensure they get the care they need.
“In addition, a joint search and rescue team, made up of security personnel and relevant government officials, has been deployed to assist victims, account for missing persons, and restore stability to the affected community.”
“His Excellency, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, strongly condemned the attack and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He also prayed for the swift recovery of those who sustained injuries.”
“The Governor has ordered security agencies to immediately step up operations in the affected area, boost security in surrounding communities, and ensure that those behind this cowardly attack are apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement said.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“Residents are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while fully cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
“The Plateau State Government reassures citizens of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. Additional proactive measures are being implemented to prevent further security breaches and to maintain peace, stability, and harmony throughout Plateau State,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, tension gripped Jos on Tuesday morning, as many shops and businesses remained closed in parts of the city following a series of deadly gun attacks in nearby rural communities.
Our correspondent, monitoring the situation, reported that residents and traders in areas such as Gangare, Zololo Junction, Gadan Bako, and Katako stayed indoors, citing fears of reprisals and escalating violence. Only a few shops remained open in the city centre.
Security personnel were spotted patrolling the streets of Jos, with additional forces deployed to key locations to prevent any potential disturbances.
