KWANKWASO CLARIFIES THAT MEETING WITH SEYI MAKINDE WAS PERSONAL, NOT POLITICAL

Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential aspirant and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), stated that his private meeting with Seyi Makinde in Ibadan was a courtesy visit rooted in a long-standing personal friendship, not discussions of a political alliance.
The meeting took place on Wednesday at the governor’s office, during Kwankwaso’s visit to Oyo State to inaugurate the party’s new office and hold internal consultations with national officials.
Addressing journalists after the two-hour session, Kwankwaso dismissed speculation that the encounter signaled potential cross-party collaborations ahead of the 2027 general election.
“This visit is more about personal friendship than party politics,” he said.
“Governor Makinde and I have known each other for a long time. Before attending to our party activities in the state, I felt it was appropriate to pay him a courtesy call.”
He acknowledged Makinde’s membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and reflected on his own political journey, noting that he helped establish the PDP in 1998, was elected governor of Kano State under its platform in 1999, and later served as Minister of Defence.

Kwankwaso further explained that he subsequently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) before aligning with the NNPP, where he currently serves as national leader.
He went on to inaugurate the NNPP office in Ibadan, emphasizing that the initiative aims to strengthen the party’s presence in the state capital ahead of the 2027 general election.
