ICPC GRANTED ACCESS TO FORMER KADUNA GOVERNOR EL-RUFAI’S ELECTRONIC DEVICES

The Federal High Court has granted the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission permission to access and analyse electronic devices seized from the residence of former Nasir El-Rufai in Abuja.

The order, issued by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, followed an ex parte application filed by ICPC counsel, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, allowing the commission to inspect, conduct forensic examinations, and extract data from the devices as part of an ongoing investigation.

The devices include multiple mobile phones, storage drives, a MacBook Pro, a Remarkable tablet, and flash drives. Justice Abdulmalik held that the anti-graft agency was entitled to examine these items for forensic purposes.

El-Rufai had previously filed a separate suit challenging the search of his residence, seeking N1 billion in damages, claiming violations of his fundamental rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, and privacy under Sections 34–37 of the Constitution. He also sought to restrain the ICPC and police from using items seized during the search in any investigation or prosecution.
