The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has led an emergency response following a multi-vehicle collision on the Abuja-Nyanya Expressway.

The incident occurred on Wednesday along the Kugbo stretch of the expressway, involving a fuel tanker that reportedly lost control and collided with several vehicles during peak traffic hours.

In a statement on its official X handle, NEMA confirmed that no lives were lost, though some individuals sustained injuries and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Zakari Abubakar, Head of NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office, coordinated the response team alongside other emergency agencies.

“The swift and coordinated response ensured the clearance of the traffic gridlock, restoring the free flow of vehicles,” the statement said.

NEMA also secured the accident site to prevent any potential fire outbreak following the crash. Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Federal Fire Service, and other stakeholders, participated in the operation.

“The area was dampened as a precautionary measure to avert any possible fire hazards,” the agency added.

The agency confirmed that the situation is now under control and traffic has returned to normal in the area.
