President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist Babajide Kolade-Otitoju on the occasion of his 60th birthday, describing him as a professional who consistently “speaks truth to power without caring whose ox is gored.”

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Otitoju’s contributions to journalism and national development, highlighting his dedication to citizen-focused reporting, professionalism, integrity, and courage.

Tinubu noted that Otitoju stands out as “a journalist of great reckoning and distinction,” praising his vast experience and knowledge across diverse sectors, regions, and cultures.

The President also lauded his role on Television Continental’s Journalists Hangout, where he serves as Director of News, describing his work on the programme as impactful and influential in shaping public discourse.

Otitoju, a prince of Ekirin Adde in Kogi State, has built a journalism career spanning over three decades across print and electronic media. He began his career with the Democrat newspaper in Kaduna between 1991 and 1992, before joining TheNews Group in 1993 as a pioneer staff member and Kano State correspondent.

Tinubu recalled a defining moment in his career when he demonstrated courage by reporting a religiously motivated killing in Kano despite threats to his life.

Over the years, Otitoju rose to become editor of PMNEWS and later The NEWS magazine before moving into broadcast journalism. He is also a graduate of History from the University of Ilorin.

Congratulating him on the milestone, Tinubu wished the media veteran continued impact and many more years of service to Nigeria.
