Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, widely known as Lily Afe, has voiced her disappointment after being overlooked for the Best Supporting Actress category at the forthcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Lily, who portrayed Idia in To Kill a Monkey directed by Kemi Adetiba, shared her reaction on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, following the announcement of the nominees by host Chimezie Imo on Sunday.

“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation,” she wrote.

She, however, ended her reaction with a blunt remark directed at the organisers.

“You guys can eat your award. Amvca SMH”

Her omission comes despite widespread praise for her performance as Idia, especially for her effective use of Pidgin English and delivery in the Netflix original.

The Best Supporting Actress category includes nominees such as Linda Ejiofor (The Herd), Bisola Aiyeola (Gingerrr), Sola Sobowale (The Covenant), and Funke Akindele (Behind The Scenes), among others.

The media previously reported that the AMVCA organisers revealed the nominees for the 12th edition of the awards ahead of the ceremony scheduled for May 9.

The awards, which celebrate excellence in African film and television, will feature 32 categories, spanning jury-voted, audience-voted, and special recognition awards.
