The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by 30 days, offering taxpayers additional time to meet their statutory obligations.
The extension was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Executive Chairman of AiRS, Ikeazor Okonkwo, who confirmed that the original March 31, 2026 deadline has now been shifted to April 30, 2026.
According to him, the new filing window runs from April 1 to April 30, 2026, in line with provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. He explained that the extension is intended to give taxpayers sufficient time to accurately complete and submit their returns.
Okonkwo urged residents to take advantage of the grace period, warning that penalties would apply for late or incorrect filings after the new deadline. He also emphasised the need for taxpayers to declare all sources of income and provide supporting documentation for any reliefs claimed.
The Service reiterated that all tax returns must be filed through its approved electronic platform and cautioned that no further extension would be granted beyond April 30, 2026.
The agency added that failure to comply within the stipulated period would attract penalties and enforcement actions in accordance with relevant tax laws.
