JUSTICE LIFU REJECTS ADC BID TO BAR SENATOR IRETI KINGIBE FROM PARTY ACTIVITIES

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a request by leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Wuse Ward, FCT, seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in all party activities following her alleged suspension.
Instead, the judge directed the ward leaders, reportedly aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, to formally serve the senator with court processes, allowing her to respond to their grievances in court.
In a ruling on Thursday, Justice Lifu emphasized that requests to prohibit someone from party activities, particularly in political matters, must be exercised judiciously and with proper judicial discretion. He noted that justice can only be served when both parties’ arguments are heard.
The judge ordered that Senator Kingibe be served with all court documents so she can be fully aware of the suit and prepare her defense. The matter was scheduled for April 20, 2026, for both the plaintiffs and the senator to appear before the court.

The plaintiffs in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026—Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel—filed on behalf of themselves and ward members, seek to restrain Senator Kingibe, the sole defendant, from participating in ADC activities.
According to the ex-parte application filed on their behalf by SAN Kolawole Olowookere, Senator Kingibe was allegedly suspended on March 10, 2026, by Wuse Ward executives for anti-party activities and violations of the ADC constitution. The plaintiffs sought an interim injunction preventing her from presenting herself as an ADC member, attending meetings, performing party functions, or interfering with the ward’s administration and statutory records.
The suit claims that despite the suspension, Kingibe continued to hold parallel meetings, issue press statements as a party member, and allegedly used her security detail to intimidate the ward executive committee. The plaintiffs described her actions as a “flagrant disregard for the internal mechanisms of the party.”
Meanwhile, Abubakar Marshall, a lawyer claiming to represent Senator Kingibe, informed the court that he had filed a preliminary objection to the suit, which was served on M.S. Garba, representing the plaintiffs during Thursday’s proceedings.
