The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has cautioned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may face fresh legal disputes over ongoing disagreements concerning court orders, warning that this could potentially disrupt the electoral timetable.

Speaking on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, criticised INEC’s handling of the matter, saying that misinterpretation of court rulings could lead to further litigation.

Johnson stated, “INEC must be careful in handling court orders to avoid dragging the electoral process into unnecessary legal battles that could affect the timetable.”

The warning follows ongoing legal disputes within the NNPP, where rival factions have previously gone to court over leadership control and the party’s structure.

The internal crisis has resulted in conflicting court judgments, raising uncertainty over which faction should be officially recognised by the electoral commission.

Johnson further noted that if unresolved disputes within political parties are not properly managed, they could create uncertainty ahead of future electoral processes and undermine public confidence in the system.
