The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is still on course to conclude on May 24, according to the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi.
Owumi disclosed that clubs in the NPFL will observe a break this weekend to accommodate the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President’s Cup window.
He explained that the fixture arrangement was agreed upon with the NFF Competitions Department at the start of the season to ensure smooth scheduling and avoid disruptions experienced in previous campaigns.
“We synergised with the NFF Competitions Department at the start of the season to create windows for the Federation Cup. It has been in effect since January and we are running our calendar as designed,” Owumi said in a statement to the NPFL Media.
According to him, Matchday 36 and 37 fixtures will now be played on May 3 and May 10 respectively, while another President’s Federation Cup window is scheduled for May 16 and 17.
Owumi maintained that the final matches of the season will be played on May 24, as originally stated during the season’s draw.
He added that maintaining fixture integrity required deliberate planning and cooperation from participating clubs.
“We have been intentional to maintain fixture fidelity, and it took a lot of planning and cooperation from the clubs to achieve this,” he said.
