The Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissing reports of an alleged impeachment plot as baseless.

The resolution followed plenary in Ibadan, where lawmakers reaffirmed their support for both the executive and legislative arms of government.

Moving the motion, the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, described the rumours as politically motivated and without merit, stressing that no impeachment process had been initiated within the House.

“The allegations are baseless, distracting, and politically motivated. The Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, and no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment has been brought before this chamber,” he said.

Lawmakers also addressed recent political speculations linking Governor Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and some legislators to alleged plots against one another, dismissing the claims as unfounded.

The Assembly’s position follows earlier allegations by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who had suggested political manoeuvres involving the monarch—claims that have since been denied by both the state government and the palace.

At the sitting, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Fadeyi seconded the motion, describing the House as united and commending the Makinde administration’s performance in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

Also speaking, the Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, rejected claims of any impeachment discussions and warned against the spread of misinformation.

“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation. The rumours should be disregarded in their entirety,” he said.

He further stressed that the Assembly would not be influenced by any individual or group, reaffirming lawmakers’ continued support for both the governor and the Speaker.
