The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has screened three senatorial aspirants and 131 House of Assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman of the screening committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Jos after the exercise was concluded.
He said the screened aspirants are expected to participate in the party’s primary elections scheduled for next Wednesday.
Nanden explained that most of the aspirants emerged through consensus arrangements, including those for the three senatorial districts in the state.
He named the senatorial consensus candidates as Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North.
He added that all House of Representatives aspirants were also selected through consensus, except for the Langtang North/Langtang South federal constituency, where the contest remains open.
According to him, a total of 131 aspirants are vying for tickets to the 24-member Plateau State House of Assembly.
Nanden further revealed that five governorship aspirants from the state are currently undergoing screening in Abuja.
The governorship hopefuls include Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.
Addressing internal party concerns, he dismissed reports of factionalisation within the PDP, insisting that the party remains united under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
He also ruled out the existence of any rival faction capable of fielding candidates, maintaining that the PDP remains duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
