Afrobeat musician and son of Fela Kuti, Made Kuti, has spoken about his views on marriage proposals and why he chose not to kneel when asking his wife, Inedoye Onyenso, to marry him.

The 30-year-old Grammy-nominated artiste explained that he sees marriage as a mutual agreement rather than a one-sided gesture, adding that he did not feel it was necessary for either partner to “beg” the other.

He shared this during an episode of the Timeless Podcast, aired on the Nix Network YouTube channel, where he said, “I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other.”

Made Kuti married Inedoye Onyenso in a private ceremony held in Lagos in November 2023. He also revealed that she was once his “school daughter.”

In 2025, the singer addressed criticism over his marriage, particularly comments targeting their different ethnic backgrounds, describing such views as a “slave mentality.”
