Bordeaux new signing Samuel Kalu will no doubt be a positive addition to the attack of the French Ligue 1 side according to coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.
Kalu was signed from Belgium side Gent for a fee in the region of €8m after his breakthrough at the club last season, following his move from Slovakian side AS Trencin two years ago for less than €500,000.
The GBS of Jos Academy forward has been described as a player who can play adequately well on both sides of the flanks by the coach of the Nigerian team Rohr, who also represented Bordeaux in the 80s.
Explaining why he has not called the 20 year old to the national team of Nigeria, Rohr also took out time to praise his quality and what his game is all about based on the scouting he did on the new Bordeaux man.
“Samuel Kalu is a regular winger , in the same style as Moses Simon but he did not have the level of Moses Simon a year ago. That’s why I did not select Kalu. It was one or the other, now Kalu is a much improved player who can play on both sides,” Rohr explained according to Owngoalnigeria.com.
“I am very happy that he signed for Bordeaux. I think he will bring them penetration on the flanks because he likes to play in space. Against teams who like to defend deep, players like Kalu can help find solutions,” Rohr remarked.
Last season Kalu scored 8 goals in the Belgium top flight league with ten assists as well from 32 games. A form which he will be hoping he replicate at his new club Bordeaux starting from when he makes his debut.
