Contrary to a viral post on social media that claims a passenger flew into Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Monday, June 17 showing signs of the dreaded Ebola Virus.

Hotjist.com has confirmed authoritatively that there is no case of Ebola virus in Nigeria. In a discussion with a nursing staff of the Nigeria Port Health Services, who prefers to be anonymous; said we are an agency of the Federal Ministry of Health and we are here to prevent infections from coming into Nigeria, like in the case of Patrick Sawyer, we donā€™t want that to happen again. So, if thereā€™s any suspected case, we donā€™t let them go. We immediately call on the Lagos State Epidemiology team; they will bring their ambulance and take away the suspected case for thorough investigation.

In the rumoured case that occurred on Monday, there were no serious symptoms! It is because she was coming from Congo ā€“ Kinshasa that was why we took more interest in the slight symptoms that we noticed, she was not running high temperature. If she had Ebola, she will run an unusually high temperature then we will never let her go because even though sheā€™s not running temperature now, she might run it latter.

It was just a suspected case, if there is anything serious, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) would have informed us. More importantly, all the people that might have had contact with her would have been quarantined for 21days, including us.

World health Organisation, WHO last weekend decided not to declare a global health emergency in the Democratic Republic of Congo, despite the spread of Ebola in that country. This is due to the fact that it could galvanize aid to fight the Ebola epidemic and also make the job of containing the virus much more difficult.

WHO spokesperson, Tarik Jasarevic told DW that the panel of experts who recommended that no emergency be declared found that the situation did not meet the criteria for a Public Health Emergency of International concern, PHEIC. ā€œHowever, the committee noted that it is still a very concerning situation and that WHO should continue to put in place necessary measures to try to contain the outbreakā€.
