Guardiola Wants To keep Iheanacho As City’s Third-Choice Striker
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to keep Kelechi Iheanacho at the club ahead of next season amid reports linking the Nigeria forward with a £20m move to West Ham, Completesportsnigeria.com has gathered.
However, Iheanacho will only be third choice striker behind Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus if the Super Eagles star stays.
Iheanacho, 20, was restricted to 20 English Premier League appearances last season and hardly got on the bench since Brazil striker Jesus arrived from Palmeiras in January.
Last season before Guardiola’s arrival, the Nigerian international made 28 appearances and scored eight league goals, providing two assists.
“Kelechi Iheanacho has not been given authorization by Manchester City to speak with any club or undergo any medical,”a top source from Manchester told Completesportsnigeria.com on Thursday.
“He is still highly rated but behind Kun (Sergio Aguero) and Jesus (Gabriel Jesus). Pep wants to keep Kelechi, but let’s see how the story unfolds.”
The source added that the 20-year-old left the camp of the Super Eagles in Paris for two days for ‘personal reasons’ and not issues regarding his future at Manchester City.
Iheanacho has four years left on his current deal at the club.
