ADC URGES FG TO PRIORITISE EQUAL RESCUE EFFORTS FOR BORNO, KWARA KIDNAP VICTIMS

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Federal Government to replicate the urgency and commitment that led to the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State by securing the release of victims still being held in Borno and Kwara states.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party praised the successful rescue of the Oriire schoolchildren and teachers after 56 days in captivity but warned against giving preferential attention to certain kidnapping cases while others remain unresolved.
The party congratulated the rescued victims and their families, commending the security agencies and everyone involved in the operation.
However, the ADC stressed that many Nigerians kidnapped in other parts of the country have remained in captivity for months without receiving the same level of urgency or public attention.

According to the party, pupils abducted in Borno State earlier this year are still in the hands of their captors, while more than 100 people kidnapped in Kaiama, Kwara State, also remain in captivity.
It argued that these victims deserve the same determination, operational effort and national focus that secured the freedom of the Oriire pupils and teachers.
The ADC also maintained that while successful rescue operations should be celebrated, they should not become the standard for measuring the government’s performance on security.
Instead, it said the true measure of success lies in preventing kidnappings altogether and creating a secure environment where citizens can live, travel and attend school without fear.
The party expressed concern over the continued rise in kidnapping across the country, warning that persistent insecurity undermines public confidence, discourages investment and threatens economic growth.
It urged the Federal Government to sustain the momentum generated by the Oyo rescue by deploying the same intelligence, resources and operational capacity to free every Nigerian still being held by kidnappers.
The ADC also called for a broader security strategy focused on strengthening intelligence gathering, improving collaboration among security agencies, addressing the root causes of insecurity and restoring effective government presence in vulnerable communities.
According to the party, while the rescue of the Oriire victims deserves national celebration, the country cannot claim victory until every abducted Nigerian has regained freedom.
Kidnapping for ransom remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing security challenges, with schools, highways and rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups.
Although security agencies have carried out several successful rescue operations in recent years, many victims continue to spend prolonged periods in captivity, while new abductions are reported across different parts of the country.
