Adeleke arrived at the Villa at about 5:20 p.m., dressed in traditional attire and accompanied by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside several Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
During his meeting with Tinubu, Adeleke presented his certificate of return and thanked the President for what he described as his commitment to allowing the August 15 governorship election to proceed without interference.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after securing 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with Tinubu, Adeleke said his visit was primarily to appreciate the President for respecting the democratic process.
He described Tinubu as the “father of the nation” and commended him for allowing what he called a free and fair election.
According to the governor, the President’s commitment to democracy contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.
