Senate President Godswill Akpabio has warned that the National Assembly may take legal action against the contractor responsible for renovating its chambers following persistent microphone failures disrupting legislative proceedings.

Akpabio issued the warning during Wednesday’s plenary after several senators encountered difficulties using malfunctioning microphones while making contributions on the floor.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the recurring technical issues, the Senate President described the situation as an embarrassment to both the legislature and the country.

He noted that he had experienced a similar incident during the opening of the National Assembly Week at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, where microphone problems also affected proceedings.

According to Akpabio, the same contractor handled the renovation projects in both the Senate and House of Representatives chambers.

He stressed that the National Assembly would consider all available legal options if the contractor failed to address the defects and ensure the facilities function properly.

Akpabio also urged lawmakers to take note of the recurring failures, saying any future action against the contractor would be justified by the repeated disruptions witnessed during plenary sessions.

He maintained that the continued malfunction of the audio system undermines the image of the legislature and requires urgent attention.
